About Us

The Olde House Farm Cottages are part of Penpont Farm, which has been in the Hawkey family for three generations. The Olde House, started by Andrew & Janice in the 1970’s is now run by Jaime and Shaun, ably assisted by Shaun's brother Dom, whilst Olly runs Penpont Farm, so it’s a proper family affair.

The Hawkey Family

The Hawkey Family moved to Penpont from a few miles away in 1915. Since then it’s been farmed by three generations of the family.

In the 1970’s, the family made the brave decision to diversify into tourism. They converted a number of stone and slate barns, which formed the old farm yard into self-catering holiday cottages.

After all the farm buildings were converted, some new cottages were built in the surrounding fields. This move created the nucleus for a business that has flourished ever since and is known as “The Olde House“.

Self-catering cottages proved very popular as visitors enjoyed the mix of a working farm with the peace and quiet of the countryside. The farm is ideally positioned for exploring the rugged North Cornwall coastline, and is especially close to nearby Padstow, Polzeath and the Camel Estuary.

The Olde House is part of Penpont Farm, a 550-acre working farm that has been in the Hawkey family since 1915.

Penpont Farm

We operate an old fashioned mixed farm of 650 acres with beef, sheep and arable. We raise 200/250 beef cattle, 750 Dorset ewes utilising 300 acres of permanent and temporary grass and 250 acres of arable crops.

The farm is a mixture of grassland, arable, wetlands, ponds and small wood-lands which supports a diverse range of bird life, along with foxes, badgers, hares, rabbits and many other wild animals. We have two lambing seasons which are September and February. The farm grows wheat, barley and oats, which are used to feed the animals here on the farm.
