There are so many cycling routes in the area, it’s a difficult task to choose just a few. Here are our favourite cycling routes in North Cornwall.
Camel Trail, Padstow
● Distance: Around 18 miles (one way)
● Time: 2–3.5 hours (one way, depending on how many stops you make and your pace)
● Difficulty: Easy to moderate
● Terrain: Flat, mostly traffic-free path that follows an old railway line
● Bike type: Great for all bikes, including hybrids and e-bikes
The Camel Trail is loved by both locals and visitors and it’s not hard to understand why! Beginning in the bustling harbour town of Padstow, the route winds its way through Wadebridge and drifts out towards the wild beauty of Bodmin Moor. Along the way, you’ll enjoy easy-going paths, stunning estuary views, tranquil woodlands, and wide-open countryside all in one relaxing ride.
This route is perfect if you’re cycling with kids or just starting out, thanks to its gentle, well-kept path. You’ll be sharing the trail with plenty of friendly faces, walkers and other riders, especially when the holidays roll around. Bring a few treats for the journey, or take a break in Wadebridge or Bodmin, where cosy cafés and picnic spots are waiting for you to relax and recharge.
Wadebridge to Padstow

● Time: 30–45 minutes (one way, depending on your pace and how many stops you fancy)
● Difficulty: Easy and relaxed
● Terrain: Lovely flat, smooth path that’s a breeze to ride
● Bike type: Any bike is welcome, this route is ideal for families and kids just finding their cycling legs
If you fancy a more laid-back adventure, this shorter section of the Camel Trail is perfect for a leisurely afternoon spin. You’ll pedal beside the beautiful Camel Estuary, with sparkling water keeping you company nearly the whole way. The flat, traffic-free path is ideal for families and anyone new to cycling. There’s no need to rush, just enjoy the ride and go as far as you like, taking in the views at your own pace.
No bike? No problem, we recommend hiring a bike at Bridge Bike Hire, a renowned and affordable bike rental shop that is close to The Olde House. Why not make a mini adventure out of it? Take a break for a paddle in the estuary or treat yourself to a classic Cornish pasty in Padstow. If you prefer a quieter ride, set off early or try a midweek outing to beat the crowds during the holidays.
The Coast & Country Loop
● Distance: Varies (about 15–25 miles, depending on your chosen route)
● Time: 2.5–4 hours
● Difficulty: Moderate to challenging
● Terrain: A mix of quiet country lanes, rolling hills, and a few coastal climbs
● Bike type: Best for road bikes, hybrids, or e-bikes (especially helpful for the hills!)
Up for more of a challenge? The Coast & Country Loop shows off the very best of North Cornwall—think peaceful country roads, traditional Cornish villages, and jaw-dropping coastal scenery. It’s a real adventure for those who want to see it all on two wheels.
This one’s best suited to intermediate or experienced cyclists, as there are some steep hills and a few narrow lanes where you might meet the odd car. But it’s totally worth the effort: you can drop by postcard-perfect spots like Port Isaac or enjoy a sandy break on the beach at Polzeath. Don’t forget your water bottle, check your gears, and get ready for some fantastic views (and a bit of a workout, too!).
